![]() ![]() They discovered that Maier had been born in New York in 1926, then moved between America and her mother’s native France throughout her childhood before ultimately going back to New York in 1951 and settling in Chicago’s North Shore five years later. They interviewed around half of the 90 people they found-from the now-adult children she cared for, to the parents who employed her, to Phil Donahue, a television presenter for whom she briefly worked as a housekeeper. Messrs Maloof and Siskel knew that Maier worked as a nanny for four decades, and sought out everyone associated with her. These include hundreds of hours of Super 8 footage and audio recordings, and an incredible 150,000 negatives, which revealed an artistic side to Maier that was hidden from those who knew her. Along with his co-director, Charlie Siskel, he went about uncovering the woman behind the photographs from the clues that she left. “I went on this mission to piece together the rest of her work,” says Mr Maloof in the film. His quest to discover everything he could about Maier is the subject of a recently released documentary, “ Finding Vivian Maier”, which follows the BBC's release of “The Vivian Maier Mystery” last year. It has been agreed not to make attempts to hinder or capture this entity, as although its methods and intentions are unknown, it serves as a general asset to the Backrooms database.Mr Maloof's interest in the person behind this trove was piqued. The existence of this entity would serve as an explanation as to why high-quality images of levels often appear instantaneously after their initial writing into the database, even when the explorers responsible for the discovery did not carry photography equipment with them. The only evidence pertaining to the existence of the entity includes reports of leftover film rolls and undeveloped photographs rarely being found near the location where a level's image was captured. The physical characteristics of this entity remain mysterious, as it is believed the entity either manages to avoid being seen or does not have a physical form altogether. Many images in the database that do not have an explanation for how they were taken, such as those that do not have a caption regarding their photographer or the manner of their photography, can be considered to be attributed to The Cameraman. This entity, for unknown reasons and by unknown means, travels throughout the Backrooms capturing images of various levels. Many potential explanations have been provided to explain the source of this phenomenon, though, to date, none have been able to provide a conclusive answer. If, on the minuscule chance that a wanderer did have camera equipment of this nature, it would be unreasonable to believe that the individual could manage to travel from level to level capturing these images whilst carrying the equipment alone. Rather, the majority are high-quality and appear as if they were captured with a professional camera apparatus that a typical wanderer could not possess. Some speculate that The Cameraman is not a single entity, but rather a collective of entities working together to capture images, which may be supported by their vastly different styles, implying that they were taken by different photographers.įurthermore, the quality of some images indicates that they were clearly not taken from a smartphone or other common device. However, many Backrooms images cannot simply be attributed to being captured by wanderers, as this would not explain the countless photos of levels taken regardless of the implied danger to the photographer. The process by which this entity captures these photos is unknown, and its existence has yet to be proven. The Cameraman is a theoretical entity presumed to be responsible for capturing most of the currently known images of the Backrooms.
